August Events!

Dream Jars! Hear dream stories and decorate special jars to hold dreams and wishes! On Tuesday July 31st at 2:00pm. For Grades one and up, bring a clean empty jar. Registration required.

There will also, be a Bats and Owls Program on Tuesday August 7th at 4:00 pm. This will be a fun and educational experience presented by Kim Torres of elements, etc. This event is sponsored by the Friends of the Hyannis Public Library.

Camping fun on Wednesday August 8th at 2:00 pm. Hear a camping story and make edible campfires (alternate craft for kids with food allergies).

The Summer Reading Wrap-up Party will be held on Friday August 17th at 10 am at St. Mary's Episcopal Church in Barnstable Village. This is a collaborative event with the program " In the Still of the Night: Owls of Cape Cod" by the Mass Audobon. Ice cream is donated by Roche Brothers, and there will be face painting and crafts.

4-H Sewing Program will be on Thursday August 23rd from 9:30 am-3:30 pm. 

Learn basic sewing skills. This program is for ages 9-12. Registration is required. Sponsored by the Friends of the Hyannis Public Library.

The 21st Annual Hat and Mitten Tree!

Cold weather is signaling the start of mitten and hat season!

The mitten and hat tree is once again ready for decorating at the Hyannis Public Library. The Trustees and staff of the library are pleased that our tree is the collection spot for your donations of mittens, hats, and other warm items for local children and youth without these basic necessities.

Help keep a child warm this winter with a little of your time, talent and, caring. Donations of new “store-bought” gifts are also welcome and appreciated.The items will be distributed to local charitable organizations.
Please join us in the twenty-first season of this holiday tradition to help our neighbors.

Fairy House Program!

Come make Fairy Houses, on Monday August 3, 2009 at 3:00 p.m. in the back garden of the Hyannis Public Library.


Please collect and bring twigs, shells, flowers and other natural materials.

This program will be presented by Valerie Morgan from Cotuit Public Library.

The Summer Reading Program is under way!

Starship Adventure at Your Library!


Preschoolers through 7th grade can sign up for the reading program at the library or on-line at www.hyannislibrary.org. Kids can earn prizes for the time spent reading.Win stickers, small toys, Ben & Jerry's ice cream cones, ect.
There will also be programs all summer long, such as a special program put on by the Cape Cod Astronomical Society, Star Parties at the Schmidt Observatory DY High School (weather permitting) Wednesdays at 8 pm, from June 3 to August 26.
There will also be a Summer Reading Grand Finale on Wednesday August 19 at 11:15 am with Magician Debbie O' Carroll performing " The Planets Magic Show"- sponsored by a grant from the Mid-Cape Regional Cultural Council.You can also check www.mmpl.org/youth/summer_reading.htm for events planned by the Barnstable Libraries Collaborative.

Help keep a child warm this winter with a little of your time, talent and, caring. If you don’t knit, crochet, or sew, please consider recruiting someone who does and purchase the materials. Donations of new “store-bought” gifts are also welcome and appreciated.

The Hyannis Library’s special tree will be on display and waiting for warm decorations on from December 6 until December 20.

The items will be distributed to local charitable organizations.
